"It started with one hat, one friend, and one very important mission." Hello! I’m Kelly, the hands and heart behind Hugs for Heads. I have been a fiber artist and crochet enthusiast for most of my life, but in 2023, my passion for yarn took on a deeper meaning. My dear friend Denise Downes was a warrior. Throughout her years-long battle with cancer, I watched her face every challenge with grace. However, one thing she struggled with was finding a hat that didn't just cover her head, but made her feel like herself—stylish, confident, and comfortable.
I picked up my hook and designed what is now known as the "My Denise" Slouchy Hat. Seeing the light in her eyes when she put it on was a turning point for me. It wasn't just a garment; it was a hug she could wear every day.
