Mentorship Leadership Experience (M.L.E.) Program Coordinator (Site Coordinator)

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the Mentorship Leadership Experience (M.L.E.) Program Coordinator (Site Coordinator) position for the Division of Youth Opportunities within the Department of Health and Human Services. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the (M.L.E.) Program Coordinator is responsible for program development, staff training, family engagement, staff supervision and the M.L.E program. Primarily, this position will lead and develop a group of 13–14-year-olds in a youth workforce readiness program. The position will also work with the Recreation Worcester staff to support the implementation of athletic, academic and arts programs for various age groups.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  • Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes the development in youth work skill sets, personal growth, and leadership among MLE youth members
  • Plan, organize, and lead MLE meetings and activities, ensure a safe & engaging environment for all participants
  • Facilitate discussion and activities that promote team building and leadership development
  • Support staff in problem solving and crisis management
  • Performance management of Youth Worker staff
  • Evaluate quality of program and suggest improvements
  • Facilitate and continue development of MLE program & curriculum
  • Facilitate weekly MLE program meetings
  • Develop and facilitate trainings to develop staff
  • On site staff supervision
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations, organizations, and interests
  • Ability to work with students with special educational or emotional needs
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to build relationships and networking skills with participants, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Ability to perform work with considerable independent judgment, creativity, and initiative.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Two (2) years of youth work experience
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Previous staff or volunteer supervision experience
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to and from various Recreation Worcester sites on daily basis
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
  • Experience facilitating activities and programming
  • Must pass a criminal background check (CORI & SORI)
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One (1) year of administrative experience
  • Two (2) years of staff supervision experience
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
  • One (1) year of experience facilitating out of school activities and programming
  • Bilingual candidate
  • Worcester Resident
SALARY: $17.50 hourly part-time, non-benefitted.  Candidates to be selected upon funding determination.
